Today we spent the class reviewing the concepts we have covered so far by doing a Midterm Review assignment. This assignment covered chapters 2 -5.
Chapter 4 Review. We continued our review of Ch. 4 (Analysis of Equations and Inequalities) in preparation for the Chapter 4 Test on Thur. Apr. 28.
Assignment: p. 296 - 297 #1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18 4.8 Absolute Value Equations and Inequalities. We discussed the definition of the absolute value function. We solved several equations and inequalities by considering 2 cases - when the function is positive and when it is negative.
Assignment: p.294 #1-6, 11, 15, 16 4.6 Rational Equations and Inequalities. We reviewed solving equations that involve fractions by multiplying by a common denominator. We also discussed how to determine restrictions and how sometimes we generate extraneous roots.
Assignment: p. 273 #1, 4, 10, 12, 14 We also did a quiz on polynomial functions, equations and inequalities. 4.5 Solving Polynomial Inequalities. Today we looked at using a sketch of a polynomial to determine the values of x that solve an inequality.
Assignment: p. 265 # 2-5, 9-11 4.4 The Factor Theorem. We used the remainder theorem from yesterday to develop the factor theorem for today. The factor theorem was then used to factor polynomial functions and to solve polynomial equations.
Assignment: p. 259 #1-5, 8, (12-14)ace, 15a 4.3 The Remainder Theorem. We reviewed long division and applied it to dividing polynomials. We then talked about the remainder theorem and did a few examples on the application of the theorem.
Assignment: p. 254 #2 (using long division and division statements), 1, 3, 5-8 4.2 Nature of the Roots. We discussed the discrimant and how it can be used to determine whether a quadratic equation has 2 solutions, 1 solution or no solutions.
Assignment: p. 244 #1-3, (6-8)a |
