We started today's class with a quiz on simplifying RE. Next, we did examples of adding and subtracting fractions. Students were reminded this process is similar to adding and subtracting fractions.
Assignment: p. 66 #(1-4) sample, 5, 11
2.3 Adding and Subtracting Rational Expressions
We started today's class with a quiz on simplifying RE. Next, we did examples of adding and subtracting fractions. Students were reminded this process is similar to adding and subtracting fractions. Assignment: p. 66 #(1-4) sample, 5, 11 2.2 Multiplying and Dividing Rational Expressions
Today we did examples of multiplying and dividing rational expressions. We looked at the similarities between using RE and integers. Students used the skills of simplifying and stating restrictions as well. Assignment: p. 59 #2,3 sample 2.1 Simplifying Rational Expressions
Today we reviewed working with fractions in preparation for working with rational expressions. We went over simplifying, adding, subtracting, multiplying , and dividing fractions. Next, rational expressions were defined. We talked about why RE have restrictions and how to determine those restrictions. Finally, we did some examples of simplifying RE by using factoring. Assignment: p. 52 #1, (2-6) sample, 8 Ch. 1 Test
Today, students wrote the Ch. 1 Radicals Test. Tomorrow we will move on to Ch. 2 Rational Expressions, which is working with fractions involving variables. There was no new assignment given. 1.7 Ch. 1 Review
Students worked on a Ch. 1 Pre-Test. The Ch. 1 Radicals Test is on Monday. 1.7 Ch. 1 Review
Today students started their review of Ch. 1 Radicals. Students should write a summary of topics covered in this chapter. The format of the summary is as a explanation of topics trying to teach someone else what you have learned. For example, how would you teach someone else how to simplify a radical? What do you look for in the question? How do you know when you are done? Can every radical be simplified? What is the difference between simplifying and evaluating? Is there a difference between simplifying a square root and a cube root? Is there more than one method and, if so, which one is better in which circumstances? Assignment: p. 46 #1-9 The Ch. 1 Radicals Test is Mon. Feb. 25th 1.6 Solving Radical Equations
Today students wrote a quiz on multiplying and dividing radicals. We also went over techniques used to solve equations that involve radicals. It was emphasized that students need to check for extraneous roots every time. Assignment: p. 43 #1-3 sample, 4, 8 1.5 Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Today we continued with examples of dividing radicals by going over the process of Rationalizing the Denominator. We also talked about how to change the index of a radical. Assignment: p. 33 #1-9 sample The Ch. 1 Test will be Mon. Feb. 25. 1.5 Multiplying and Dividing Radicals
Today we started with a quiz on Adding/Subtracting Radicals. Students marked this in class. Next, we did a few examples of multiplying and dividing radicals. We will do a few more examples on Tues, however, students should start on the homework assignment tonight. Assignment: p. 33 #1-9 sample 1.4 Adding and Subtracting Radicals
We started today's class with a short quiz covering sections 1.1 - 1.3, evaluating absolute value expressions and simplifying radicals. We went over adding and subtracting radicals. Assignment: p. 23 #2-8 sample |
