Students finished working on their midterm assignment. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I'll see you in January.
Students worked on a midterm assignment covering the material taught since the beginning of the course. The assignment must be completed and handed in tomorrow.
Today students wrote the Chapter 7 Inequalities Test. Thursday and Friday will be review covering all material studied so far in the course.
7.6 Inequalities Review
We carried on reviewing for the Chapter 7 Test tomorrow. We did both guided questions together on the board and individual seatwork questions from the workbook. 7.6 Review of Inequalities
Students reviewed this section in preparation for the test on Wednesday. Students should be able to solve a quadratic inequality, graph 2 variable inequalities and systems of inequalities, and solve word problems that can be represented with inequalities. Review questions start on p. 337. 7.4 Applications of Inequalities
We did examples of solving problems using inequalities. We discussed how the variable can be determined and how to generate an inequality that will solve a specific problem. We then solved the inequality, which was a review of yesterday's material. Assignment: p.334 #1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 11 The chapter 7 test will be next Wednesday. 7.4 Non-Linear Inequalities
Today we did examples of graphing non-linear inequalities and systems that involve non-linear inequalities. We also solved quadratic inequalities by graphing and checking regions. Assignment: p. 329 #1aeg, 2abc, 3acgi We started by reviewing homework so students were prepared for the quiz covering sections 7.1-7.3. No new work was assigned.
7.3 Systems of Inequalities
Today we reviewed how to graph an inequality in 2 variables to show all the valid points of the inequality. Next, we did examples of a system of inequalities in which we shaded the region of the graph that showed the points that were true in all the inequalities. Assignment: p. 320 #2aegh, 3adfgh, 4afj, 5aeh, 6ad, 7a 7.2 Algebraic Solution to a System
Students started by demonstrating their knowledge of solving systems using graphs by doing a quiz. Next we did examples of solving non-linear systems by using the method of substitution. Assignment: p. 313 #1aeikot, 2aei, 3, 5, 7 |
