We jumped ahead a few sections so that students would be familiar with function notation. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 deal with functions extensively and it is important students are comfortable using function notation.
Assignment: p. 272-279 #1-4, 11, 16
6.5 Function Notation
We jumped ahead a few sections so that students would be familiar with function notation. Chapters 4, 5, and 6 deal with functions extensively and it is important students are comfortable using function notation. Assignment: p. 272-279 #1-4, 11, 16 4.2 Functions
Today we went over what a function is. We discussed how to recognize a function from a set of ordered pairs and a graph. We also went over the difference between a function and a one-to-one function. Assignment: p. 177-183 #1, 3, 6-8, 11, 13, 14, 16 4.1 Relations
Today we worked on representing a set of numbers in a variety of ways. Students used words, set notation, a number line, and interval notation to describe the domain and range of a relation. Assignment: Domain and Range Worksheet 4.1 Relations
We started our new chapter by defining a relation and discussing the independent and dependent variables. We did several examples of finding the domain and range of different relations. No assignment was given. Ch. 3 Polynomials Test
Students wrote the chapter 3 test covering simplifying and factoring polynomials. 3.7 Chapter 3 Review
Students worked on review for the Polynomials Test tomorrow. Students should know the vocabulary for this section; how to add, subtract, multiply, and factor polynomials; and how to apply these concepts to solve a word problem. Assignment: p. 159-163 #1-8 3.6 Factoring
Students worked on a Factoring Synthesis worksheet that combined different types of factoring questions. This assignment will be handed in on Thur. The Ch. 3 Test on Polynomials will be Thur. Students should be able to add, subtract, multiply, and factor polynomials. 3.6 Factoring Special Cases
We went over factoring a difference of squares a^2- b^2, perfect square trinomials a^2+2ab+b^2, and a sum and difference of cubes. Assignment: p. 156-160 There will be a factoring quiz on Monday, chapter review on Tuesday, and a Chapter 3 Test on Wednesday. 3.5 Factoring ax^2+bx+c
Today we looked at 3 methods of factoring a trinomial with a leading coefficient that is not 1; decomposition, AC method, and inspection. Assignment: p. 151-154 #1-8 3.4 Factoring x^2+bx+c
We started today's class with a quiz on expanding polynomials. Next we went over factoring trinomials with a leading coefficient of 1. Assignment: p. 142-147 #1-8 |
